In Dotonbori, Osaka, the Glico Running Man is an iconic landmark. I swear, you can type in “Glico Man” on the Google Maps app and it will take you right to the bridge where you can pose and run alongside the Glico Man. Weirdly enough, when I finally came face to face with the infamous runner, I couldn’t help but feel giddy and excited that I finally got to meet him despite it being a fictional character which represents a snack brand. I kept hassling my dad that we just had to take a photo with him and he didn’t get it. I explained to him that he is an iconic character which people take photos with and how he also represents positivity as he keeps on running towards his goals. He is a symbol of hope to me…and he’s just a freaking dude on a billboard. I don’t understand my own infatuation with him, but I ended up spending a day running with the Glico Man, decked out in a shirt and all.
